Does anyone know of a good bar to get equally good absinthe in San Francisco? I've been meaning to try this stuff and figure there has to be some good places in the city.

Yeah, I heard it's pretty potent. How did they serve it to you?

There is a restaurant there called Absinthe (that I have never been to). Maybe they serve it there?

I think a good place to burst your Absinthe-hymen is Bourbon and Branch.

I love Absinthe, great oysters and fries too. The real deal there are the 5 dollar Rye shots.

B&B is good. Also, Dalva has Absinthe. Try Yelp.

Clock Bar in the Westin St. Francis (done by Michael Mina) serves it.

in a very generously sized shot glass. It followed jello shots, tequila shots, vodka n ginger ale, Jack n Cokes and a couple of pints down my throat that night...but it was the absinthe that put me over.

Lots of places in SF have the stuff now, so all the above suggestions are good. My rec would be to make sure you try the St. George Absinthe of which all of the above places will have, since it's locally made -- Clock Bar, Absinthe, B&B.

Thanks all for the replies. Do either Absinthe or B&B serve the drink with the traditional spoon/glass/sugar cube method or is it just a shot?

Only had it in a cocktail at Absinthe, so I'm not sure. However, I know B&B and Clock Bar have the water fountains for louching it properly with a spoon and cube.

Absinthe is reputed to be a very good bar, and very good bars are a specialty of mine. I would go there. ~ H

Sugar is optional and not something I ever do to any decent absinthe. Just FYI.
