Charlie Watts

If you have never seen these interviews from, I guess , the early 90's, do yourself a favor and search youtube for Charlie Watts interview with Matt Lauer on something called Late or maybe Later. In a world full of self-important braggarts Mr. Charles Watts is fresh air, a truly humble man, whose honesty and yes , sweetness are perhaps even more remarkable than his undeniable talent at the drums. I used to envy Mick and Keith for their money, houses and women- now I know why we should really envy them- the time they get to spend with one great Mensch. If there were a Nobel Prize for being a Human Being, it should go to Charlie Watts.

My favorite CW anecdote is, Mick was giving an interview or something and referred to Charlie as his drummer. Supposedly Charlie heard about it, found Mick, and punched him out, saying, "Fuck you, you're my singer!".

Cool guy and cool dresser.

There's a virtue in a man who feels so uncomfortable talking about himself. I'd venture to guess that he'd be much more upfront about his perspective of his life if, say, the Stones were a failure. He just seems that humble. I had no idea.

Did you hear Keith say that once he and Mick were in a fight and he had Mick on a long table that stopped just short of an open window several floors high. Keith was shoving Mick toward the window, determined to push him out. Charlie yells, "Stop, what the fook are you doin'?"
Keith responds, "Why shouldn't I toss the gobshite out?"
Charlie, "Because the wanker has on one of my best jackets!"
Keith, "Charlie was so earnest that Mick and I cracked up laughing and that was the end of the fight."
Apparently Charlie's great wardrobe saved Jagger's life.
