That's an old trick players do in practices. My son went to goalie camp one summer, which was run by some excellent college D-I goalies. One of them was also a shockingly good skater and shooter. During one goal-off, on the very first shot against my son, he did this exact same thing except it took off like a fucking bullet. I swear I could hear a little scream from my son, but he got the right pad over in time to kick it out. The other coaches razzed the shooter pretty mercilessly. My son was 9 or 10 at the time.

+1, there are a few videos of similar goals floating around, but none in actual competition. My varsity team used to be obsessed with fancy stuff like that.

They don't work at any level if there's any other player on the ice. What rube meant, though, is that showboating like that is going to land him a punch to the chops.
