kwil- it bugs me too how the U.S. team in so inconsistent.

I've said it before: English offense and Italian defense had a dumb child who tries really really hard and gets lucky sometimes--that's what US soccer is. They play high-variance football. They'll try to cherry-pick goals like the English and then hunker down with tons of defenders like the Azzuri. Problem is a lot of the players are rubbish so they don't manage counterattacks well and struggle to score on the run.
