Sorry for the last minute notice, but the 316 Club Barber Spa is hosting an event tomorrow between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. sponsored by Ketel One Vodka (which is supplying martinis) and Balani Custom Clothiers (which will do a trunk show). Shaves and shoe shines will be complimentary. This should be a great time!

I'm a member, and they told me that anyone can attend - just show up.

Thanks for the heads up. Straight razor shaves? Do they do a good job?

Carm does a great job with the straight edge (I've had two) but they might be bringing in another guy for this gig.

What sort of work do you do that this place seems reasonable?

Attorney.

The place offers memberships, but you can get a one-off haircut for about $40 IIRC, which is pretty competitive.

I'm in the legal field as well. I get my hair cut at the Wrigley building barber. It's $22.

I live next to the Wrigley so I'm not exactly commuting to town from Cottage Grove, but $40 seems excessive for a man's haircut. (I realize that people spend their money on different things. I've seen people on here with $3,000 shoes in 1 BR).

$40 is excessive? I guess if you don't care about your appearance.

Hey Lou--how was the event?

I'd say it depends what you do with your hair and your disposable income. Consider mine (what's left of it) is buzzed short, $40 would be excessive (right now I pay $6 every two weeks). I could see someone with a full head of hair who actually wants it styled by the person doing it paying more.

You mean the 316 Club event, Professor? It's starting in 10 minutes. Just had lunch with Francisco d'Anconia and we agreed that you should come west for the hotel lobby crawl!

...and I have a fairly full head of hair. Deanna at the 316 Club does a great job, so I'm willing to pay a bit more for the consistency.

Plus, given that it's around the corner from my office and near the bus and train lines home, the convenience is worth something: If I went to your place in the Wrigley Building, I'd end up either taking a cab home to Wicker Park ($10 bucks easy) or spending an hour on the bus lines.

If you have a place that does a good job for you and you pay a lot less than me, then more power to you my brother!
