Aside from Technic 1200's, I've never been really lucky in buying used/refurbed video, photo, audio, or computer equipment.

thanks,

Factory refurbished - great, never had a problem.

Third party refurbished (ie. some guy wiped it over with a rag and plugged it in to make sure it lit up) - total crapshoot.

I've worked with a lot of tech geeks and they all buy refurbished Apple stuff. They claim that because it's refurbished it goes through more stringent testing than anything off the shelf. I tried the refurbished stuff from Apple out and have been doing it off and on since. Depending on what they have in stock.

Apple refurbs have the same warranty as new. In addition you can always buy a 3rd party warranty from a reputable company life Square Trade.

I've bought a few refurbed items and have no problems with them. I'd always buy from somewhere established though rather than eBay for example.

AT&T replaced my old cell phone with my current refurbished phone. I've had no problems, including getting AT&T to unlock it so I could use it in Argentina.

I bought my Apple laptop and a Sony all-in-one refurbed. They both work great! (got a better discount on the Sony though). However, what the above posters mentioned was key. 1. Is it a refurb from the manufacturer who conducts testing and quality control before the items leave the plant. 2. Does it have the same warranty as regular products. I buy mostly everything refurb and I've only had a problem once. The problem was a global problem related to that particular machine and had nothing to do with the refurb. The point being though, one must ensure you have the same warranty as the other products otherwise you'll be left holding the bag in this situation. Good Luck.
