French Cuffs and Button-Down Collar?

I am considering a shirt that I recently saw a shirt with French cuffs and a button down collar. The shirt was a blue herringbone. As I thought about it more, the combination didn't make sense to me. The button collars seem inherently casual, whereas the french cuffs are obviously a bit more formal. Does a shirt like the one that I described make sense, or should I take a pass?

Strange... We do see a lot of mixed garnments at the moment with two different sartorial philosophies mixed in one garnment...

Even if casual chic and mixed fashion are on the up , I would pass on that one...

I've seen this a few times. In fact, one of the VPs at my firm wears these every day (he is NOT dapper). Gotta say it gives me a lot of pause. Button-down collars look cool when they are worn with an air of casual non-chalance; french cuffs run counter to that.

Years ago I worked with a guy who always sported the BD/FC combination. He may have gotten his shirts from Paul Frederick, which offered it as FCs as an option on their BD shirts. It always looked imbalanced to me.

We just say no to button down collars and french cuffs on the same shirt....it's unnatural.....

many -- maybe most -- style rules are artificial.

And note that one person who's against this combination writes about "non-chalance" and another about "imbalanced"

A lot going on there.

If you're going to do a FCBD, I imagine you have to stick w/ poplin or maybe oxford.
