Has anyone had experience of returning unwanted peacoats back to vintage trends?

I sent a coat back to them 12 days ago and heard nothing from them.

someone wanted to know the p2p measurement, approx. ~ 21"

Good-looking coat. Nicely fitted.

Although the cap and the raised eyebrow suggest you're about to mug someone on a Dublin street corner. But the umbrella says, "Nah yo, just playin'. I'm a gent straight through."

Are you taking the store credit to buy another one?

So why the J Crew over the Sterlingwear???

  1. I could try on the medium-regular in a local brick & mortar, then order the medium-Tall.
  2. Free shipping
  3. No return shipping charge- returnable to any nearby brick & mortar
  4. More tailored, less bulky fit- I'm sick of huge outerwear.

Yes, that's right. Free to-doorstep shipping and return shipping were big factors. Would've been about $13 to get my hands on the Sterlingwear and probably another $13 to get it back to them if it didn't work out. That's would've been $26 for a trial & error exercise.

If only Sterlingwear had a store or sold through a retailer anywhere in the SF Bay Area, I would've tried on at least one size. Then they could've competed with J Crew and others. But, no.

Not to bash your purchase---if you're happy with it, great---but Reasons 2 and 3 are B.S. because Sterlingwear is cheaper than J. Crew by a good margin. Even with one trial & error re-shipping, and the original shipping cost, you are paying less. If you want to talk inconvenience, well, that's another story.

Are the J.Crew peacoats ordered online really a different fit from the one in stores?

They sell the regular-length, regular-fit versions in store so if you order a tall or a slim fit, then yeah.

I may still order the Sterlingwear and then I can compare the two side-by-side. Not sure.

Not necessarily true. Sterlingwear is $160. With return shipping for an exchange on an incorrect size and getting it properly tailored it would probably cost around $200. I paid $210 in store for my J.Crew, including tax, no alterations needed.

J. Crew is having 30% all outerwear + free shipping. Regular peacoat came down to $178 i think.

I'd flip the collar up and unbutton at least the top button and possibly the bottom.

I ordered a medium-tall with thinsulate from J.Crew.

I've always wanted to buy a sterlingwear and had the opportunity to try a few but the fit never worked for my body type. I'm 6'0, about 150lbs, long arms and somewhat smaller head. The huge sterlingwear collar just did not work and believe me, I definitely wanted it to work. Except I would have to thin the sleeves and thin the body (very boxy and technically I fit in between a S/M in terms of chest, and a M/T in terms of sleeve) and then the collar would still look a little ridiculous due to my head/neck size.

I'll see how the JCrew fits when it arrives. If no alterations are needed I'll likely keep it. I know it's not as good as the sterlingwear but the latter does not work for all body types I think.

Sometimes I like to wear my peacoat when I am at home, if I wear it too much will anything bad happen to it? It is quite comfortable and it has gotten real soft and I wear it like a t-shirt now. Just wondering if it is possible to wear my coat too much, I have heard bad things happening like the elbows wearing out, should I be concerned? What problems might I encounter if I go this route? I want my peacoat to last a long time.
