Anybody looked at the J. Crew Peacoat?

http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product...atId=cat260082

I like the cheaper alternative of a Sterlingwear peacoat, but is the jcrew peacoat that much nicer ($110 more)? I'm leaning towards the Authentic or the Navigator if that helps at all.

I like the look (dig the chest hand pockets) and thickness of the Express Peacoat, but the quality is 80% likely to be shit and I would like something a bit slimmer fitting (their small fits ok but a bit short in the arms). At $250 Ill pass but would gladly pick something up that is similar but better quality.

I have to echo the Sterlingwear, they do have the navy contract you know. If you want a thinner coat get the navigator, it is really nice. If you desire a heavier coat get the authentic. They oxford grey coat is a deep cool looking grey, very nice.

I'm looking for a Medium..well, i'm 33inches around the waist...will the medium be too loose?...I want a slim fit, and I'm worried about the sleeve length.

33 inch waist?

I think even a large might be too tight.

Do they make these in any sizes bigger than L?

Yeah, I've been wondering about this. There are a bazillion slim fitting coats here, I don't understand what's so special about this particular one. It's not especially cheap or well-made.

I know. I don't even like mine all that much, but i bought it 2nd hand for cheap over the summer. I'll probably just use it this winter and try to pick one up i like better on sale in february or something. It's not bad or anything. It actually fits me really well, but not worth a 3 page (long view) thread about it.

These look like women's coats, and not particularly well-made ones at that.

They're appealing because...

1.) They're cheap, sub-100 usually.

2.) Available, you can order them online.

and

3.) Small, which is great for tiny people like me (34 in chest).

Though of course unless you're especially petite and don't have the money/access to well fitted slimmer peacoats then I don't understand why you should want one.

I'm thinking about getting the Classic...

in suits I'm usually a 38 short but that is in no way slim fitting... more like a regular fit, they still need to be altered in order to fit nice.

Can I size down to a 36short and have it fit nice and fitted? But not so slim that I couldn't wear a sweater underneath.

From what I've read, I would say yes. I basically followed the same sizing-philosophy for the Sterlingwear's and ordered an Authentic two days ago. I should be getting it in the mail this coming week, I'll let you know how it worked out.

Thing is, they have that sale for $75 Sterlingwears' over at that army supply store... want to order soon.

Most likely you will be fine. All the authentic ones I've seen can be sized down one (2" down) and still fit with a sweater underneath. Do a search as well, you may find some measurements.
