very true hadn't really thought about it like that. Consider it forgotten.

Still great looking coat right?

thanks for the fast response peacoat, I have also posted another with fit pics and all, and sadly some cuts to the coat which I am trying to decide if I should have stitched up or return the coat. As I am in moderation the posts will appear slightly delayed.

P2P 19" so you are spot on. Your peacoat dating article is just brilliant so thank you.

Before a week ago (when I saw this thread), I'd never paid attention to JCrew, but it seems like they're pretty Jos A. Bank-like with their promotions. Is this a seasonal thing, or do they run these promotions quite frequently? They've run the same 30% off promotion for a week, with 3 different promo codes.

I'm looking for a good winter peacoat, which has been troublesome as I'm 5'4" with a 33" chest. Even XS sizes are huge on me and all I could find in XXS was American Apparel and Topman, which both have subpar selections. Then I discovered Sterlingwear (and these forums. Where have you been all my life?!). So here's my conundrum:

Sterlingwear's boy's Navigator coat is mostly my size in Medium, according to its sizing chart, but it looks like the sleeves would be too short (they'd need to be about 15" from the armpit). Conversely, the Large would be fine sleeve-wise (at 14 3/4"), but the chest would be far too wide (36.5"). I'd have to take it in, which is fine, but I'd be worried about the shoulders being too wide still or the shape not being as form fitting for boys (sadly the size chart is not very specific about measurements for boy's sizes).

I could get one of the smallest men's coats, but the problem here (aside from costing about 2.5x as much) is that they're all way too long. Even the shortest men's jacket is 29 1/4" long from the back of the collar down, which is a couple of inches past my crotch and would look weird. The 17" sleeves would be too long, too. (By comparison, the boy's large is 28" long, which is still a bit lengthy, but probably close enough).

Does anyone have any experience buying boy's sizes in Sterlingwear? I know they tend to run large.

Any ideas how long before I am unmoderated?

Quick question are the collars separately stitched on as when popped you can see the stitching at the back. i thought it might have been seamless and all joined? Or has this jacket been restored at all perhaps?

what size should I order?

i'd go stragiht for the 32 and if it doesn't fit try sterlingwear. the 34 p2p is 21"

Hmmm...based on the feedback and a lengthy examination in the mirror I think I'm going to send this Jos. A. Bank peacoat back....it is a wool blend and it is a little long.  I think I'm going to just get a custom order with makeyourownjeans.  The big problem is due to being 5'2 I have a very small torso so the usual proportions don't apply  confused.gif  Will post pics once it's all said and done (will probably take a month for a custom order + shipping).

Thanks for the feedback!

That stitching has a specific name, but I can't remember it. It is normal, although not all pea coats have it. I think it will add strength and rigidity when the collar is up.

With 10 posts, you should be out of the moderated zone, I think?

i seem to be able to post simple text posts easily enough, however my fit pic post is yet to be approved...

VT has an excellent condition pea 50's for a reasonable price, wondering whether to return mine and get that one...

I never really shop at J. Crew, so someone more experienced would be able to respond more accurately. But, you are in the holiday season period with Black Friday/ Thanksgiving --> Christmas / New Years, basically all stores are going to have large sales. I don't believe J. Crew has 30% off regularly (in fact maybe the 20-25% is much more common), and only during certain periods of time. Quality wise I don't think Jos A Bank and J. Crew is comparable, the latter being better I hear.

Doesn't state wool percentage. And its hard to buy something online with no sizing. small medium and large can only tell you so much..
