It's a nice coat. Fidelity makes good quality stuff.

Curious what the deal is with that Fidelity coat from Epaulet...

Coats directly from Fidelity are about half that much, and they only seem to make that 6 button model in womens.  Anybody know whats going on there?

Many here know far more than me but Fidelity seems to be one of maybe 3 or 4 companies that produce regulation pea coats, exactly how the government said they wanted them made.  Not 100% sure but I think this is Fidelity's direct webstore : http://fidelitypeacoat.com/

Again not sure what the deal is, they are much cheaper than Schott, Sterlingwear, but they are one of the only companies that makes other styles as well CPO shirt/jackets etc.  That's how I became aware of them, looking for a CPO jacket.  Mine is Korean war vintage and looking pretty sorry.

I posted a longish review of the coats I had gotten my hands on, read back through this thread, lots of info.  Suffice it to say, yes, you can get a really good coat for way less than that.  I ended up with a $130 on sale Jcrew one, had the best feeling wool IMO.

FWIW the most expensive peacoat I tried (Filson) was possibly the worst.

thanks!

Yes. Perhaps all seamstresses won't work with heavy material such as that, but most will.

For starters, it is only 80% wool. Won't be a thick or warm as a coat with 100% wool, but if you don't live in the northern half of the country, you may not notice the difference.

Don't know that Fidelity has ever produced pea coats for the Navy. May have, but I don't remember seeing that brand on issue pea coats. Sterlingwear has been the supplier of pea coats for the Navy for the past number of years.

Sterlingwear, Schott and Fidelity are the big three of US manufacturers of civilian pea coats. Only Sterlingwear is the supplier for the Navy.

Vintage Trends and ebay are the ones most people use. There is a lot of junk on ebay. If you have read my article, and it sounds as if you have, that will help you sort the authentic ones from the pretenders.

What is the opinion on Alpha Japan pea coats?

would this hat go with a peacoat?

Hey guys, I am considering the Schott Slim Fit Peacoat in Grey or the J.Crew Bayswater Peacoat in Charcoal.

I am 6'0 & 175lbs. Was wondering what everyone thought of the fit & quality of these two peacoats compared to each other. The Schott is on the left and the J.Crew is on the right.

For those with interests in more stylized peacoats... viz this Krane peacoat for AW2012.
