my coat fits well overall but I want it to fit like a glove...

is it possible to:

-take in the chest about an inch
-tighten sleeves? they feel kind of big (not long but big circumference)
-shorten by an inch

Is it possible to do all those things? If so, would it be very difficult to do and would it be very noticeable?

I have the ralph lauren academy peacoat. 80% wool 20% nylon. 100% cupro lining (just the info on their site)

thanks in advance

I think the sleeves would take the most time.

I actually have the pea coat with the grey elbow patches - fell in love with it when I saw it. I wouldnt say that it is much shorter than the average pea coat. If you look on the unionmade website it gives the measurements of the jacket.

thanks! if you had to guess, how much would those 3 things cost me?

I don't know. Never had any alterations done. I have a size 40 peacoat that needs to have the sleeves lengthened, but haven't gotten around to doing it yet. There have been others on the board who have had alterations done, and they might have an idea.

Total, I'm guessing over $100. Maybe way over.

I had the bottom hem taken up on a peacoat and it ran me $15, but this is probably the easiest alteration to make.

Are you trying to list it in this thread or in the classifieds? Here is the link to the classified section. There are several sections there you might want to consider. If you have already tried that, I don't know what to tell you. Important to read the classified rules before you list an object for sale there.

So I posted a big long review of all the various pea-coats I've gotten my hands on in my search for a decent one, It was my first post on the forum and it seems to have disappeared.  I'll try and just sum it up quick here.

I have bought or tried on many a pea-coat in the last few months.  Here is the good and the bad.

Schott NYC 740 34R:  Bought and returned.  Seems well made and is probably true to size.  I sized down one to the 34R and it was too tight, 36R was probably the way to go.  Very heavy and thick!  Way thicker fabric and lining.  I just didn't like how rough and scratchy it was.  Definitely the roughest feeling wool of all the ones I tried.

Schott NYC 753 slim fit small:  Bought and returned.  Very light weight coat, just a satin lining and thinner wool fabric.  Much, much softer wool than regular Schott pea-coat.  Small seemed like a good fit for a 36R.  Didn't like the cheesy leather trim on the pockets and the buttons or something was sewed on crooked.  It would do something really odd when buttoned up all the way.

Sterlingwear Authentic 36R:  Tried on in the Boston store.  Seemed true to size.  They seem well made but I was just not super impressed with the softness of the fabric and the pocket linings seemed really cheap and weird, this applies to all the Sterlingwear coats I tried on.

Sterlingwear Classic 36R:  Tried on, seemed true to size.

Sterlingwear Navigator 34R: Tried on, sized down to 34 felt good to me.

Filson Fairmount pea-coat, size XS: Purchased and returned.  Super boxy and weird, short arms and huge torso.  I bought the extra small as other Filson black label stuff in XS fits me really well, the pea-coat is just horrible though.  Very disappointing fabric inside and out for $400.

J.Crew Bayswater pea-coat small:  Bought and actually liked and have worn.  Small seems good for a 36R, some room for layering.  Nice details, backer buttons on main buttons, chin strap, nice soft wool and nice pocket linings.  Only thing that bothers me is it's made in China.

Anyone know where to find the Schott 740C in size 44 in stock? The C being the key letter. Schott is out of stock even though the site doesn't say so.

Thanks

I'm in Australia, and hoping to capitalise on the winter sales in the states. What's the common consensus on the RL academy peacoat? Yes or no? They got it for $195 online. Any tips/brand suggestions would be great, I'm new to all this. Btw, I'm a 38, looking for a navy if anyone is looking at selling. Thanks!

Okay, Just bought an awesome pea coat for 180$ off [S]ebay[/S] Craigslist. Its a ted baker, perfect size. The inside looks awesome and it fits like a dream. Its probably the first properly fitting winter jacket I ever got. I'm thrilled but now, I need to know how to accessorize, like what shoes/gloves/head/scarf type/colour should I wear with it? I went out and bought some gloves that match my scarf. So far this is really the only get up that works together well. Any ideas?  ( http://nigelclare.com/ted-baker-crumlin-wool-reefer-coat.html ) is the jacket...
