The length may vary because the sellers aren't consistent in the spot at the top of the coat where they start the measurement. The length shouldn't vary more than an inch or so.

The length of a peacoat is properly measured from the seam where the collar joins the body of the coat, down to the hem of the coat. If you ask them to give you this measurement, they should be fairly standard. The more critical measurement is the sleeves. They should be measured from the seam where the sleeve joins the shoulder, down to the cuff in a straight line, not following the bend of the elbow. A tailor will measure from the middle of the neck, just below the collar, down to the cuff, following the bend of the elbow. We aren't tailors.

Found a Sterlingwear online that looks pretty good.
How should I measure it correctly for the size? Can I measure any shirt/jacket and get pretty good estimates, besides the tips from Peacoat?

How does it look?

Thanks Pea. I didn't have much time to confirm measurements but I'm pretty sure the 33" is the total length. Hope it works out happy.gif

I'm looking on Uniqlo's US website, and there is no section for J+. Do they still carry J+ in the USA? The J+ peacoat on the UK website is 180 GPB, which is pretty much 300 US$, so if they had it in the US, could I expect it to be that much?

Never mind, I found it, it's like 230$.

I bought the Club Monaco one in navy and haven't worn it yet, so I ordered the JCrew one during the 25% off to see how it compares.  It arrived and it seems to be way warmer (I ordered the one with thinsulate) so I think I'm going to keep the JCrew one as well.  Even though I love the look of the Club Monaco (looks quite polished, great colour and the wool is super soft), I find that the JCrew has a better fit and more appropriate for cold weather.

Would you mind telling me what sizes you got for both jackets? I've tried on the Club Monaco and I've been reading things about the J. Crew coat and like the details.

Anyone compare the Sterlingwear to the J. Crew coat? I'm wondering if I size down for a Sterlingwear if the sleeves will so be huge and the fit will really boxy.

Which coat do you prefer. I like the detailing around on the cuffs on the first coat, but the fit seems a bit off. It sort of flares out in the back. The second fits a bit better, but it is missing the cuff detail and I hate the elbow patches (I will probably have them removed). Coat 1. Maybe it's just me but all those peacoats look a little thin in material.

You are correct. They aren't wool they both are lined canvas. Honestly I can't decide. I really don't like the elbow patches on coat 2, and I think the arm holes may be a bit low (it seems more constrictive then coat1). The problem with coat1 is the back flares out if I'm not careful giving me what looks like duck butt, I don't know if this is an issue of the stiffness of the fabric or the cut. Maybe I can get a tailor to fix this? Regardless of which I keep, either coat would need to have the sleeves shortened.

is there any way to make the shoulders of the sterlingwear peacoat not so boxy? i swear the shoulderpads make my shoulders so square
post #3583 of 5862
Should've bought one w.o the padding. smile.gif

I say this simply because 1) I don't know what you'd have to do, other than ask a tailor if its possible, and 2) I had a Sterlingwear coat once. I flipped it after a month because I hated the fit. Including the squared off shoulders.

I got both in XS.  I'm pretty skinny at about 5'-6", 135lbs.  The Club Monaco fits okay, but the sleeves were slightly too long.  The J Crew one has a slimmer fit, with a more tapered torso and shorter sleeves, so overall its a better fit for a skinny guy like me.

how are you guys fitting into the bayswater? I got an XS according to the similar weights posted here and the shoulder and everything else fits perfectly but I have to angle one of the arm holes above my head when putting it on. been doin too much bench presses
