Chicken sandwiches..

There are a lot of threads here about burgers, but I think that most here will agree that sometimes a simple chicken sandwich could be just as satisfying as a good burger. Those could be found at the most unusual places - from a local hot dog joint to an upscale restaurant. But when you find them, wow.

The best one I ever had was a chicken club in Prague - it blew my mind. Panfried chicken breast with just the right amount of flour/seasonings, lightly toasted bread, some kind of amazing mustard/mayo mix.

I still dream of that sandwich the way I dream of the best burgers that I've had. Also, I think amazing burgers are a lot easier to come by (especially if you are in a large metro area) than amazing chicken sandwiches.

I'm just as much a chicken sandwich guy as I am a burger guy, and frankly there are often times I prefer a chicken sandwich over a burger. My two go-to chicken sandwiches, for the moment are: A Grilled Chicken Torta off a truck on Roosevelt Ave in Queens. It's $5, and has 2 breasts of chicken, lettuce, tomato, refried pinto beans, guac, pickled spicy jalpeno/carrots and mayo on a toasted roll -- pure heaven. The second is a Chile/Argentian specialty. It's basically a big thin chicken cutlet breaded, with one shard of green leaf lettuce, a few tomatoes, mayonnaise on some sort freshly baked bread/roll/hero deal.. It's fucking great..

Chicken breast is an over rated piece of meat. It dries out and has little flavour. Putting it between a dry bun does not help

What I miss most about living in the Southwest: There is exactly ONE Chick Fil A in WA state, and it's in freaking B-Ham.

+1,000 This is what I was going to post. I'm embarassed to admit that my favorite chicken sandwich is from a fast food joint, but it's just so delicious.

On a related note, thanks for making me crave something I can't buy on Sunday! I live in the state that invented Chick-Fil-A, and I can't go get one because it's Sunday.

Overall I would agree with you, I much prefer dark meat or a mix. That said, a properly done chicken sandwich is not dry at all.

I make a mean chicken panini in the cast iron skillet.

diced chicken
sliced tomato
fresh basil leaves
mozzarella
onion
roasted bell peppers
mayo
olive oil & vinagrette dressing

It's fool proof.

Most Italian pizza/sub shops around here make a pretty good chicken cutlet sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo.

The Fat Darryl chicken sandwich at Rutgers Grease Trucks, New Brunswick, NJ -four chicken cutlets -mozzerala sticks -marinara sauce -greasy, oily french fries -foot long piece of bread One of the best, and most unhealthy chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Only $6.

For anyone around wine country, Healdsburg Bar and Grill has a great chicken sandwich. Fresh baked bread, grilled chicken breast, chipotle mayo, roasted poblano peppers, pickled shallot, and a great aged cheddar.

All this talk of bread is evil.

I also feel Chicken is over-rated. I prefer Pork, personally.

I see one of these places quite often at a point in the day when I am hungry and have few options. I will officially blame you when I stop.

Crazy sandwiches. I also miss the subs from Tastee on Rt. 27 IIRC.

That sounds....! I have no idea what a pickled shallot is like but I know I want one. ~ H

Bread is, in fact, my favorite of all foods in all the world.
