Hi guys, I was wondering if anybody has ever ordered a James Smith & Company umbrella over the phone? I would love to make the trip to London but that isn't happening anytime soon.

Do you think I can just call and ask for a solid stick maple umbrella with a navy blue canopy cut for a 1.88 meter male? I've tried to call today but haven't been able to get through. Also, just curious if anybody has done then and been happy with what they received. Thanks in advance.

My wife ordered one by phone (we live in New York) as a gift for me several years ago. No problems. Excellent umbrella. I also own a Brigg. They are of comparable quality.

Ordered one a few months ago, nice people to do business with. Their web page with information regarding their offerings disappeared for some reason. Keep in mind the high shipping prices, around 50 GBP.

Most of their sales are over the phone to overseas customers according to one person I spoke to there. On the 2 occasions I visited their shop there were lots of boxed umbrellas waiting to be shipped.

You can order via e-mail, too, and I think that their e-mail address is on their website.

I enquired about getting them to ship me an umbrella last year, but was dissuaded by the shipping cost. I'm still tempted, though, and my end up going through with it at some stage.

My e-mails were responded to quite promptly, within a day or so each time.

I don't think they make much, if any, money off shipping. Getting items sent from the UK to North America is just plain expensive. I'd guess the cost to ship to the US would be £30-40. This could be confirmed by getting an estimate on the Royal Mail or Parcelforce website.

The rest is for packaging which is really very good as I'm sure others could attest. I had my umbrella packaged for the plane ride home and they charged me something like £10 for it but it was certainly worth it.

Also the cost of shipping is offset by the VAT deduction.

Hi,

You could do it by telephone I'm sure although part of the 'experience' of shopping at James Smith is the wonderful selection of woods available in the store...the same wood can be figured in so many ways that it is nice to choose the figure that suits you...

They also have some other types that are not listed on the website.

Here are two of mine
