Inner Ear Monitor Recommendation: iMetal 590

I just got back from the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest 2009 and while there I picked up some new IEMs that came recommended to me by Tyll Hertsens of Headroom fame. They are Maximo's iMetal 590 ear isolating monitors with an MSRP of $60 which they sold at the show for $45.

I am quite impressed with these inexpensive IEMs. Very good treble and bass and a very clear midrange. Andrew Houston let me audition them against the more expensive Monster turbines and I prefered these as I did over several other competing IEMs. I have a black iPod (lossless files of course) so I chose the black option but they also have a platinum color version. Carrying case, shirt clip, various ear piece sizes, extension cord, etc. are included for a nice complete package.

If you are looking for a decent IEM, check these out.

Bumparoo. Still breaking in a bit. Even better sound than I imagines. Nice bit of detail. Really works well with the fantastic new Beatles remasters.

I'm concerned about the reviews on their previous model.

You guys may think sacrilege, but the Apple In Ear headphones are surprisingly good. They are light years beyond the regular ear-buds. Very flat response, dual driver. I like them a little better than the Ultimate Ear SuperFi 4 they replaced.

Yeah the HeadFi guys don't seem to like them much.

A little 80's humor.

They actually are very good, particularly for OEM stuff.

+1, but only if you use good seals with them. I like them more than my Ety 4s.

I may have to check these out. Rocky Mountain Audio Fest's CanJam in Denver had the new JH Audio JH-13 IEMs which sell for $1,100. Very good sound. Even better are the hot ladies who are sales reps. Like a PocketSquareGuy photo shoot.

It's so fitting that you're an audiophile.
