Help with hair!

I'm Male, 22. I have darkish brown hair which is VERY thin, i also have a receded hairline with a widows peak, so a bit like Dracula or having cat ears :P
I've always had my hair medium - long, to hide my huge forehead, but i'm always looking in the mirror every 2 mins to make sure the hairs not sticking together so that you cannot see my scalp or top of my forehead!
I don't want to get it short as it will show it all off and make me look about 10 years older! if i have it too long, because its thin, it sticks to together, showing my scalp making me look like an old wizard.
What can i do! I am really into the emo/metal/jrock culture so cool spiky long crazy hairstyles is what i would love to have, but alas i'm looking a bit like Lloyd Christmas from dumb and dumber XD
Please Help!

Coming from someone with a receding hairline, I feel your pain. You probably don't want to hear this, but shorter is better....get a buzz...

Honestly, the longer you wear your hair if it's thinning with recessions, the more obvious it is that you're balding. You have a couple of decent options...nothing that will allow you to wear longer or spikier hair, unfortunately. 1. Go to a good stylist. Don't go to SuperCuts or a random 5-minute place. Ask around, find a good stylist where you have to make an appointment. Any good stylist will know the best way to cut your hair for the shape of your head, minimize your forehead and suggest some products to thicken your hair. 2. Hair thickeners and conditioners: Use these...they work. Wash your hair every day in something like Fat Head (or if you want to go more expensive, there are lots of options but be careful about 'miracle' promises) and follow up with a good thickening conditioner. Blow dry your hair with minimal use of styling products. Lots of styling products will clump your hair together and revel more of your scalp. Get a thickening serum or a clean, light managing conditioner. You want to avoid pomade, mud and really sticky stuff that is just going to weigh your hair down. 3. Keep it short...get frequent hair cuts: Don't wait 3 months for your next cut. Keep regular appointments, just like you would with a dentist and keep things neat and manageable. There comes a time when you cross the hair Rubicon. Just do it...clinging to styles that don't work for you or make your thinning hair appear worse than it is is counterproductive. Give in, do the logical thing and work with what you have and make it work for you aesthetically. If your hair is brown, consider some highlights if you're balding on top or if the recessions are deep. The contrast of dark hair on white scalp makes it much more obvious that it's going, going.... It's not the end of the world...but at some point you have to acknowledge that even though you like longer, spikey hair, it doesn't work for you personally.

If you have enough hair, you should grow it out, part it down the middle and restrict your bangs to each side behind your ears. If you do go ahead and buzz it, your thin hair will be very noticeable. I have a friend who seemed to have thin hair particularly when he would gel it back and the product made his hair wet and stick together. He buzzed it, and you can see his scalp and some peachy fuzz where it otherwise looked like he had hair.

Ask your hairdresser and make an informed decision, but don't just leave it to them because it may take time to work on a look that will make you look fuller, and some aren't that patient. It's probably a safer bet if you guide them (or are at least active in the decision). Anyway, you might have a good head shape to simply get rid of it if worse comes to worse.

Yeah my hair isnt too bad on the top or side, its just the frindge thats the most thin, specially over the "cat ears". so was thinking of spiking the top or back, but its just the front part im not sure on, how short etc
