I think this is an over generalization as someone who has bought a Tag two weeks ago. I currently also own an Omega and have owned a Panerai. All brands have some watches that are interesting; for example Tag has the Monaco and Grand Carrera that I think are interesting. So I think it's a little difficult to just write off a brand. I do not like most Rolexes, but like the new Air King and the white faced Explorer II.
sometimes i think of Tag as the Sketchers of finer watches. many of the designs are complete rip offs of perceived higher quality watches i.e. - Submariner, Speedmaster, Navitimer etc.
when they do come out with their own new designs, like the Link, they seem to come up short slightly on the sophistication radar. plus, they never keep a design long enough for it to become a classic, or when they do revamp an older design it doesn't look any better i.e. the Link again.
i will give them credit for keeping the Monaco alive, but it seems like a lot of the people i see with Tags are new money guys that just wanted an expensive watch and didn't realize that Tag was kind of like the starter watch and that it wasn't on the same level as say, Omega.
