TO ALL THE NYC HEADS: first trip to NYC tips and suggestions? - Page 2

Staten Island ferry is nice for some good pics of the southern Manhattan skyline...and it's free. When you get to Staten Island, exit the ferry and get right back on. The ride is about 30 minutes and the ferries leave on a set schedule.

Mind if I jack the thread? Sorry! I'm headed there in November as a sort off family get away since my father passed away. Any suggestions for shopping? Maybe even what to wear?

Preferably at around 4am, trashed, and belligerent. It will be a good time.

You forget to add that he has to wear either red or blue

Be sure to make a reservation soon for Peter Luger's and know that they only take cash.

For NYC, I would suggest going and having a beer at McSorley's, the oldest bar in the city. You can also walk around the east Village which is nuts. You mentioned hot dogs, I would try Crif Dogs in that same neighborhood.

If you are going with a group, I would suggest Sammy’s Romanian Steak House. Guaranteed wild time and you won’t remember anything. Food isn’t half bad.

Also, stay away from the restaurant known as the Spice Market, its terrible now and please stay away the tourist trap that is canal street.

Don't go to Manhatan. Nashville is better.

A bagel is unique in that its boiled before its baked, and actually tastes quite different depending on where you buy them. When you buy bagels from most grocery stores, they are indeed, bread shaped like a circle.. when you purchase them from a place that knows what they are doing, they're quite different tasting than regular bread. Having said that, I don't like bagels much.

I'm heading to New York in April - this will be a good read for me.

Make sure you get a "i <3 nyc" and wear it prominently so the locals will know how much you love them. People will be way friendlier.

My favorite NYC Pizza (coal fired only choices):
1. Grimaldi's - Brooklyn, just the other side of the bridge on Old Fulton St.
2. Lombardi's - in SoHo

Flavors are fantastic, like no pizza you've had before.

Also, Little Pie Company for the best apple pie. You will thank me.

Burger: a friend who works on Wall Street swears by Shake Shack

NYC is a food lovers dream.
