Would you say that there's a decent career path in it? Likely on the MF side, at least to start.

From what I've seen it really depends on where you're are. There are sooo many firms that are basically just boiler rooms, but there are some that are top notch. It really depends on the product you sell as well - there is a huge difference about pushing a shady syndication vs. a well-structured product with good reputation that's in demand. And a lot of times it's all about relationships that exist and the ones that you create. I guess it's just like the rest of the sales industry. Product, demand, reputation, relationships, etc. As far as the career path, I've seen wholesalers who either open their own BD shops or move onto various capital raising activities with the larger firms.
