Report Cover Design Ideas

Hey guys. I'm working on a research paper for my architectural history program and am looking for some report cover design inspiration. I'd like something clean, simple and not overly inundated with images. If you recognize any of the fonts used, please note them as well. I should note that I am not exactly a design wiz so the covers should be somewhat easy to replicate.

This is OK but a little bland:

What is the topic?

No sense in putting a bunch of unrelated Architectual details on the cover of your paper.

Do you have access to previously submitted architectural reports? Have you talked to your professor as to what's generally a solid format for such a cover? Why not build off general layouts, and ideas gathered from the best of these. All the while making the design relevant to your report, and incorporate ideas of your own as to how the cover should look. Your work should be unique, so should your cover. Creating cover designs that are clean, professional, but yet visually interesting can be tricky sometimes to put together. Taking some time now may help you in the future when you'll likely have to create reports for other classes.

Of course, but I am looking for some basic layout ideas such as image placement, font style, color combination, title placement, etc...The content and images will naturally be changed to be relevant.

The cover page grants a lot of latitude for design. This would then be followed by a standard boilerplate title page.

I have looked through previous reports and they all simply use the basic centered font with centered images directly below. It hasn't been a big help.

IMO, all of the basic layout ideas you are looking for play off of the image, not the other way around.

I wouldn't use the same layout for a report on European circular fountains as I would for American skyscrapers.

How about a half-naked woman?

Yes, it's cynical, but it works.

The "Country Life" approach.

It's an academic paper. Keep it in the "boring refinement" graphic design school of thought. Contrasting texts ( serif and sans), large thin letters, dotted lines, and black/white formatting are never wrong. Give us a title and let us play around.

Most architecture manifestos have similarly "dull" designs. Pictures are overrated.
