I need a casual white shirt.

I think every guy should own at least one white shirt. They look hot in the summer. I need a new one.

Don't think I'm being lazy; I have looked everywhere.

It must be a medium to large (42 inch chest), rounded at the hem and have a nice tapered, fitted shape to it. No logos or vulgar brand names across the front or back. I'd kinda like it to have a distinctive look to it if at all possible. I don't mind a very light pattern or striping. I do like western-style shirts.

Can anyone help me out or perhaps you can give me a list of links to online retailers? I know of yoox and use it a lot, but it's hard to find other stores online.

I hesitate to answer this one lest people think I am affiliated with the brand, but I own an Adam+ white long-sleeve button down of the softest pima cotton imaginable. Vented, too, perfect for summer.

Yikes! I must have grabbed mine from their last season----it was deeply discounted. Sorry, I searched a bit, but came up empty...

not sure what price you had in mind, but I was on the same quest recently-- a white shirt, tapered and slim in cut, that would look good tucked or untucked, etc.

i have a feeling you won't find one that fits the bill more than the Thom Browne white shirt carried by Bergdorf Goodman, NYC. expensive, but it prevented me from buying two or three shirts that "weren't quite what i wanted/ had in mind," trying to get it right.

Price is of no concern (within reason).

Can you tell me where to get the shirt you mentioned? It must be available online, I'm afraid.

EDIT: I see there is a Bergdorf Goodman site online, but no such shirt on there. A couple of nice white western Seven shirts, though.

Though I had less than great luck with my last experience in the store, Thomas Pink slim fit shirts should do quite well for you. I wear my slim fit white twill shirt from them with my suits and with my jeans, and it looks just as good with both. Comes as either button cuff or double cuff. I wear a 15 1/2, but at a 42, I might try a 16 (I am a 40).

the thomas pink slim shirt is a good idea, tho.....suggest getting it in a 'heavier' or more durable cotton, if you can. looks and wears better with jeans, etc.

Hmm depends on:

1)Your shape (proportions)
2)If you want to wear it tucked or untucked (can be altered though)
3)If you're the kind of guy that defines casual as wearing slacks and a sportscoat or casual as jeans and sneakers.

That being said here are some of the brands that I appreciate or that work for me:

1)APC, maybe less tappered than you want be as I said depends on your shape, definitely a company that makes a stylish, minimalistic casual product
2)Prada, loads of crap but I've found that one of their cuts fits me perfectly of the rack, nice fitted shape, smallish soft collars and cuffs. The kind of shirt you wear with cuffs undone and some straight simple, dark jeans
3)Paul Smith, kinda retro-british, usually a great fit if you're tall
4)Rag and bone, didn't know about their shirts, tried one yesterday and was pretty impressed; it was some sort of colarless thing you might like if you're looking for something different
5)Helmut Lang/Jil Sander/Costume National these have a lot in common IMHO, just find out which one fits your shape the best. I'm not that keen on costume, never bought a piece, but loads of fans on the forum will gladly recommend it. Oh wait I do have a costume tie and they're perfect so hmm anyway the stuff I've seen is mostly monochromatic so they come up with plenty of nice white shirts every season.

The twill one I mentioned is the heavier of their two standard white shirts. They currently have a herringbone texture one, not sure how that is. What I really like about that twill, though, is the fact that you can't see through it. Neither nipples nor gray wife-beaters look good through a white shirt.

5'11" 180lbs. I'm slim but not as thin as many of the guys around here with 30inch waists (I'm a 34in).

I'd want to wear it both tucked and untucked.

I'm casual as in jeans and sneakers. That's why I chose the streetwear and denim forum over the other one above.

I guess links to some good online retailers would be the most useful.

I think Jil Sander & Helmut lang are much closer to Prada's styling--though I don't think HL shirts quite make the same grade (my experience is that the quality is inferior, and the silhouette not as "refined" as most Prada stuff). Costume National does some great casual (short) poplin shirts that are really slim fitting, and they can usually be had pretty cheap at Yoox. Margiela is also one of my favorites, but they're usually quite boxy in comparison.

From what I've seen HL tend to do slim fitting shirts with larger shoulders than let's say Jil Sander (JL being the brand I have tried on the least pieces of the three, kinda got into it because of SF and love what I got) or Costume, so depending on his shape he might like HL better. You're right that Yoox usually has lots of costume for sale, which might be a good option for MattJames.

Could you tell me about the price of the Thom Browne shirt? Perhaps I'll go to NYC this summer and I, too, need one of these slim-fitting shirt. I bought a really slim-fit Paul Smith trouser and it would look clownish with anything else than a tapered shirt.
