How often do you dryclean suits/dress pants

should definitely be depending on if they are dirty/smell. Typically on wool dress pants, I get a handful of wearings before dry cleaning. In terms of suits/sportcoats, I have stuff that I purchased in the last 2-3 years that has still not seen the drycleaners. With suits, always get the jacket and pants dry cleaned at the same time, if you start doing the pants only because they are dirty and the jacket is not, eventually the pants will get faded relative to the suit jacket.

I get my trousers and suit pants cleaned prior to storing them for next season or after a spill. I have suit jackets and sport coats which have never been dry cleaned. I'm pretty careful with my clothes and prefer not to get them dry cleaned unless absolutely necessary. Cleaning does not affect trousers as much as jackets IMO. A good clothes brush is a better way to keep jackets looking great. I have yet to experience a color difference between trousers which have been cleaned and suit jackets which have not.

i hardly wear any suits at all so the couple of suits i have i never dry cleaned them. even past suits i owned. they are occasional wears and usually only for a couple of hours at a time (like going to the job interview, wedding, or dinner, then i come home and immediately take it off)
i have sportcoats i wear more commonly and i dont ever dry clean them as well. i have a protective undershirt underneath my sweater or shirt so my skin sloughing of cells or dirt or sweat never touches the jacket.
pants on the other hand i need to dry clean them but only rarely as well . i dont wear my odd trousers to work (only jeans and work pants, dress pants that are beater pants, etc) and only wear them at night so it is cooler and my skin is crisp and clean.

I have a steamer at home so not that often, maybe every two months or so just the fresh them up a bit.

Now that I know better - I try to avoid dry cleaning any of my decent suits more than once a year so long as I am careful (nothing spilled on one's self) and lucky (no 'oh I'm so sorry' incidents).
When I do send a suit off, I try to be fussy about the cleaner. In Melbourne, there was one dry cleaner that a good friend from Myer recommended. In Thailand - my well dressed friends told me to take my suits to Japan on my last trip and have them dry cleaned there as opposed to rolling the dice in town.
