Cryogenic freezing

Thread Starter
With the rapid advancement of technology cryogenic freezing is becoming more and more affordable. Currently the price is something like 30k in one institute and 150k in the other, meaning that almost anything living in a developed country can afford it. What are your views on it? Call me shallow or pessimistic but to me almost anything is better than eternal nothing. Of course if you are religious, you probably think it's silly to prolong your life on earth; and of course if there is nothing after death you are not going to know that you are dead but..life sounds too good to give up. Again there are many debates on what constitutes death, what exactly is our 'mind' and what it means to be alive; but again as someone who believes in things that have been proven, I'll assume that our mind is is our memory + behavior which is stored in our brain through various chemicals/molecules etc. Of course that means we have no soul , but at least by preserving our brain we will be preserving ourselves. Again lots of philosophical debate on whether the body is part of who we are or simply a 'support mechanism' but I'll assume the later, meaning that it can be fixed/rebuilt when science will allow it without changing us. So my question to you is, will you conciser doing it, why or why not. I think that today there are currently many, many problems with the process, but, who knows how the progress will change in 50,40,20 years when you will no longer care about your pocket square fold. Physically, aging is not a process that is impossible to reverse (or at least not proven to be irreversible/preventable) so why the hell not.

I think that mummification is something to consider as well. Cheaper too, unless you go for the full ornate sarcophagus package.

great topic! We suffered the loss of our cat last year. We and the kids were really broken up and decided to crycogenically freeze him so he could join us when our cryogenically preserved bodies are revived by future generations. Unfortunately, the cost of cryogenically freezing Snowball was a tad higher than we anticipated so we decided on a homebrew project. Turns out a foodsaver and a meat freezer did the job quite nicely thank you and it saved us about $10,000. Also, every time we take a package of burgers or chicken from the freezer, we get to spend some quality time with the little guy.

I think that you are joking (I hope you are joking), but I know someone that actually did that. He had two cats and he wanted to bury them together. The idiot wore sunglasses for a week while he was mourning his cat.

Wait.. if I understand this correctly, how did he know when his second cat was going to die? Or did he just bank on it not living much longer?

I should have worn a black armband or something to mourn the RJ cat.

Exactly. I don't even want to know how long it stayed in his freezer. The dude was really weird.

Did he move back to his dad's basement, play a lot of MMORPGs and keep talking about how he was going to move to the US someday once he hit the gym showers?

kidding? not at all. Also, we wanted to cover the possibility that a future generation of sentient cats might be reviving us and would look favorably on our actions. Its good to cover your bets...

let say they find a cure to whatever disease you have.
let say they find a way to keep you living longer in the future...

Alcor's fees, you're looking at about $174,000 for whole body. He probably got a lower rate because of the publicity it generates. His chances? Who the hell knows. Cells, tissues, even whole organs have been thawed but thawing a whole animal depends on future technology.
