The History Channel Sucks Sweaty Balls - Page 4

Jesus. I just flipped through channels and saw Hitler speaking so I stopped to see what it was. Program description: "Examining whether Hitler was the third anti-Christ predicted by Nostradamus."

History loves the Nostradamus stuff these days. That and Ice Road Truckers.

Not the best, but certainly very good. When I had a TV I recall them showing episodes of a British-made docudrama about the Roman Republic (pre-Imperium) that was excellent. Any one know what that show is called?

Years ago, the history had all sorts of shows I loved to watch. Now, I can barely find anything aside from Ice Road Truckers, Pickers, and some other crap. History International has picked up some of the slack, but it too is nothing like the old History channel. Quite sad.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. Pawn stars is great. Chum Lee!

I used History Channel's "The Presidents" to study for exams.

They went well

Everything of value gets sold out anymore. We're a nation of easypants. Public television in my town is absolutely gutted. It's nothing but doo-wop musicals and stories about fucking hot dog stands and diners, interspersed with advertising and begging appeals to "save" public television, delivered by teams of sinecured, geriatric fat heads.

Ice Road Truckers, Pawn Stars, American Pickers.....on the HISTORY Channel?

To their credit, I will admit to regularly watching all 3 of those shows....it just always confuses me to see them on the History Channel.

It would be like watching Bob Villa on the Food Network...the tie in being that he builds houses, which have kitchens, which at some point will cook food.

I can see Pawn Stars, in that most of the items featured have a historical bent. I can kinda even see American Pickers. But Ice Road Truckers?

Yeah, but even those are reaching. Anything older than one second instantly becomes part of 'history'. Don't get me wrong...I like the shows, but they really have no business on a true History Channel. I think we just have to accept that these niche cable channels don't really stick to their name anymore. If they can produce content that's popular and create even a vague tie-in, they'll do it. The Learning Channel used to be the shit...now they just show Sarah Palin, dwarves, and families with way too many kids. Food Network does Travel Channel type shows, and Travel Channel does Food Network type shows. AMC (M's for Movies) now produces television content (AND IT'S GREAT) Comedy Central is sadly the only source of honest to goodness political journalism. *ducks* VH1 is now reality shows and decade retrospectives. I miss Pop Up Video MTV needs no explaining.

I find BBC America particularly frustrating. So much great BBC/UK programming, and they devote their time to Star Trek: The Next Generation?

Meanwhile, Peep Show gets relegated to 4 a.m. on Saturdays, and they show the same four episodes over and over.
