I think that wearing the socks in between your foot and your shoe while walking around for an entire day will be much more stressful on your socks than turning them inside out to wash them.
I turn all of my socks inside out to wash them, but put them inside a mesh laundry bag before throwing it into the washing machine so that the socks don't get tangled and stretched inside the machine.
