Xbox 360, Netflix, Live Gold, etc. Questions

Thread Starter
I have an Xbox 360 I'm not using and my uncle asked if I'd want to sell it. He wants to use it to stream Netflix and maybe play some games (not a priority). I just need to tell him what else it would need to be able to do what he wants.

What I have is:

the Xbox, refurbed by MS after the RROD
Power supply
A/V cable

No hard drive
No Live subscription, though it came with a card for a free month or something

So he'd obviously need a controller of some kind, and I think a Live Gold subscription ($50/yr). Would he need to get a hard drive for it? Are they offering a cheap deal on small hard drives (I heard they were but I can't find it). Anything else I/he need to know?

I know someone on here would know all the answers off the top of his head, so I figured I'd just ask. Thanks.

Pretty sure you need a hard drive to do Netflix. Get a hard drive encasement on eBay, and buy a cheap hard drive to put in it. Presto --- xbox HDD. Or he can buy one at retail, if he's already getting a deal on your xbox 360. He also needs a Netflix subscription.

a refurb 20gb xbox hdd is very cheap on ebay or on gaming forums such as www.cheapassgamer.com , no need to pay retail also look out for 12 month + 1 month free xbox live cards OR discounted 12 month cards. no need to pay retail on those either. the cheapest netflix account to get unlimited streaming is 8.99 / month

I don't think it works that way.. A memory card would work for Netflix but might as well get a HDD. I think 20GB 360 HDD are ~$25 shipped if you look around.

This might be a little over the top but I loaded PlayOn on one of my PCs in my network for $30 and I am able to stream Hulu.com, TV.com, ESPN, YouTube and a bunch of other channels on demand through the 360. It's pretty slick and yes, you will need a hard drive for that too.

Definitely get a refurbed/used HD. You can't use any old HD for the X360 and the ones MS sells at retail are absurdly expensive.
