Multifocal contact lenses

This is probably more of a question for some of those of you on the board who are a bit more "mature."

So, I've worn glasses now for about 25 years and have tried contacts a couple of times over the years and hated them. I decided to given them another try this weekend and am liking them a lot better this time around except for one thing: For the last 5 years or so I've had to go to bifocals because of presbyopia. When I did my contact exam they tried putting one eye for distance and one eye for reading, but it didn't really work (everything was blurry). As a result, we've gone with distance correction only in the contacts and then I'm carrying around reading glasses. It's only been a couple of days, but this is already getting to be a huge pain.

Someone at work told me about her multifocal contacts and I looked them up online. They look great. I'm wondering why my optometrist didn't mention them (he probably doesn't carry them, is my guess). I'd love to be able to ditch the readers except for use at night when my contacts are out.

Anyone have any experience with these? I'll ask my optometrist when I go back for my followup visit on Friday, but thought I'd see if anyone on here ever used them. My principal issue is astigmatism. Wondering if that's an issue with them or something.

Anyway...just wondering.
