Try Cafe Edison on 47th between Broadway and 8th for a true, authentic NYC experience. Try the blintzes and kasha varnishkas-or just a bowl of their amazing soup.

Funny, I'm in town to visit the Lincoln Center campus next week. Was just getting ready to post a "cheap eats" question myself.

You could go to the Chicken and Rice stands on the corner of 53rd and 6th. It's $6 for a chicken platter with rice and pita bread, get some white sauce and your all set. Theres usually a really long line at lunch time and anytime after 9PM. The food is really good, there's nothing else like in NYC( it's the white sauce and red sauce that make it taste good).
