First time at Katz's Deli . . . ORGASM - Page 3

I am going to make a few people throw up.

In high school at worked at a deli. My favorite, absolute favorite sandwich to eat was:

Pastrami, american cheese, sliced bananas and ketchup. Loved it. The saltiness of the pastrami and the sweetness of the banana. UMMMMMMMMM

Katz's pastrami and tongue are both excellent. I also heartily recommend the matzoh ball soup. Unbelievably light and fluffy matzoh.

Sounds like what Elvis would have eaten had he been a Member of the Tribe.

Katz is great. Sure it's touristy but the Pastrami and corned beef sandwiches are excellent.

Conne - have you been to Katzinger's? It's a fav of your boy Slick Willy. A little pricey by c-bus standards, but really really good.

By the way there's a very similar place in Montreal called Schwartz's and I've had many people do the taste test and still can't decide which place we like best. I like NA Jewish food a lot though and could subsist on bagels and smoked meat sandwiches for quite a while (before dying of a heart attack).

What I really want to know:

Your fav fried chicken place in NYC. It's not Dallas but there's a few good places...

Explain the concept of "American cheese" to me.

The McKenzie brothers on Second City TV's "Great White North" once said, "You Americans call back bacon 'Canadian bacon'. Well we got something called America cheese, so do Americans call it 'back cheese'?"

I wikipediaed it and it's just those yellow plastic squares that people put in burgers. Big let down, I thought it would be even weirder.

They tried putting out something called "Tea Whiz," that was bottled ice tea. You can imagine how well a lightly coloured liquid, with the word "whiz" in its name, sold.

Kaufman's in Skokie, best corned beef for the price anywhere I ahve been. machine cut, but not bad at all.

I know someone who worked for that company and gave me some info. I will therefore never eat that shit. That it tastes like cat vomit is the least of its problems.

Schwartz's smoked meat ranks right up there with Katz's pastrami. Stellar.

In the 90s some guy I know was offered a job in the US, he went for two weeks to try it out and came back (to France) saying "they sell spray cheese" with an horrified expression. Never took the job.
