One of my personal favorites: Go To Blazes. Be surprised if anyone's heard of them.....

* Speaking of ND - I've got just about every issue published. Anyone interested?

Ryan Adams is surprisingly one of my all-time favorites, not just of alt country but all music. I like Old 97s and Neko Case as well.

Australia and now Texas. Yeh, I'm really getting into Lund at the moment - Horse Soldier & Student Visa are bloody brilliant!

Boo! III is great. He sounds like his grandfather - his stuff is probably some of the most traditionally-influenced country out there right now. At least in anything approaching the mainstream. The subject matter is admittedly a bit different, but there's some traditional country under the lyrics about drugs, whores, and booze.

Ryan Adams is good, but I've never been able to get into his stuff completely. He has a lot of songs I really like, but I can't listen to his albums all the way through and enjoy every song.

He's definitely hit or miss, but I don't know how you can't be when you are that prolific, and when he hits, he hits hard. For more than a dozen albums over less than 15 years, I think the overall quality to quantity ratio is impressive.

He's also got the allure for me that is borderline terrible adult contemporary easy listening, and I have no tolerance for Rob Thomas/Coldplay/etc. style stuff. Somehow he manages to pull that off.

Faithless Street was a good album and more consistent than anything done since, IMO.

You're right about the quality of his good stuff. The songs I like I really love. He does have a ton of albums. Every time I think I've seen/heard them all another one pops up.

There is something about his stuff that manages to be accessible. It's good stuff, and it's got an edge (for lack of a better term), but you could probably convince the secretary to keep it on if it came up on one of those "listen at work" stations. Given that, it's pretty remarkable he produces music I like, given I share your contempt for that genre.

I'll have to check that one out. I'm pretty sure I don't have a copy.

Saw Wilco at the Troubadour in 1996 and it was easily the best show I've ever attended. It was one of those magical nights. Seen them several times since but nothing compared to that performance. Amazing show and drank vodka shots with Rosanna Arquette during the whole evening. Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins - 'Rabbit Fur Coat' is a great album. Also Sparklehorse 'Vivadixiesubmarineplot' is a brilliant Alt Country CD
