I prefer Del Mar to the Gaslamp District. You guys would probably enjoy this place.

Looks nice. Have you stayed there?

I was at Torrey Pines, in La Jolla, last spring for business. I was frankly less than impressed with the rooms and amenities.

No, but I have friends who've been there. It's not far from the place my family had in Solana Beach when I was a kid. I love that whole North Country area.

that hotel has never really been know to be all that nice.

I will say that avoiding SD is best. Im not sure where your business is but delmar is nice, encinitas, la jolla. They are all nice places.

You should consider Aviara and La Costa in Carlsbad. Off the beaten path and much nicer facilities than in SD proper. Close to Del Mar and La Jolla and still within reasonable driving distance of SD if you want to see the town.

As a 2x a month visitor to SD--while living in Rancho Mirage--We loved:

Either Hyatt Regency SD or Marriott Marina Bay. Awesome views, be sure to ask for high floor, NI Naval Air Station view--will give you view of Del, Bay, etc. Bring binoculars!

If you haven't stayed at the Hotel Del before. That is were you should go. period. The Ivy is a nice place. Good ownership from Michael whatshisname, good guy. But for your age and I'm sure good class it is not for you. If you decide against the Hotel Del, then coastal mid/north county (me ) can't be beat.

Thanks guys. Wife is hemming and hawing now for some reason. I just realized my meeting is in another city too, so I might not make it

The Grand Del Mar is another one to consider - brand new and quite spectacular.

The Ivy is not in the same league as the Del et. al.

I stayed in the US Grant in the Gaslamp district just last month. Historic hotel and well preserved, and while we were fine, I understand that outside noise can an issue.

Forgot about this place. I wouldn't say its right in the gaslamp, maybe just outside. But one of the best downtown. Mayors office is in the building across the street, so if you get the right room you can scream into his office.

+100

Hotel del Coronado is simply amazing, albeit pricey. They always have special romantic packages available, and it's an experience you will never forget. And yes, it doesn't get better than this in SD
