Contemplating "kidnapping" my wife for her b-day weekend, end of October. Thinking of SD as our destination. Suggestions on good hotels?

Just checking out Ivy Hotel. Is this too young of a spot for a geezer like me?

Hotel Del Coronado is gorgeous...I'm not sure it gets much better in SD...

There is also a beautiful Hyatt hotel in La Jolla which is in a lovely area, not so urban. Also in La Jolla is a hotel called La Estancia which is also very nice by the beach.

There really isn't anything good in the Gaslamp District. (unfortunately I can't recommend anything though)

I think you might be right. Is the Gaslamp too spring breakish for a couple in their late 30s?

Also filled with convention center folks...Gaslamp in general is just all mediocrity. I haven't been to SD in a couple years but doubt Gaslamp is what you are looking for. Where are you from/why thinking SD? Maybe the Bay Area would be better.

Del Coronado is the best in the area, ask for a room in the old hotel. Otherwise, go to Paradise Point. Gaslamp area is touristy in the worst meaning of the word. IIRC the Duke of Windsor stayed at the DC, so sartorially its the best choice.

I prefer Del Mar to the Gaslamp District. You guys would probably enjoy this place.
