Just wondering how the job market is currently. I'm thinking about starting a MAcc program for non-accounting undergrads this spring.

I'm a CPA in Houston. All of the big accounting firms are/have layed people off. Clients are pushing back on fees right now. Job market for CPA's is tough just like the rest of the job market for everyone else.

I'm a CPA in NYC. Market is bad for certain sectors. I would say regulatory areas are growing if anything.

Soon to be CPA....I HATE YOU CPA EXAM WITH THE FURY OF A THOUSAND SUNS!!!

Anywho...as an employee of a Big 4 and some experience with campus recruiting, although there have been layoffs and reduced hiring, it's still very much a numbers game (at least for the Big 4). Meaning, in order to keep the 'supply' of staff resources coming in, they still need to hire X number of first years so that down the line, there is still a healthy number of Senior Associates, Managers, etc. They understand that if you cut off your supply chain completely, you're really screwing yourself down the line.

That's not to say it isnt still very competitive, because it is. That's also not to say that when you get your foot in the door and get a job, you won't be laid off a few months later....that is more performance based, but it does happen.

To be honest with you, unless you want to go into academics, I have ever seen the value of Macc....the CPA is so much more important.

Not sure I answered your question, but I hope it helped.

Edit: just realized you're non-accounting undergrad....in that case the Macc is necessary. Duh. As for the market...it'll be at least another year or two before things get any better. Timing may work out for you.

That's what I'm hoping. I'm not sure if right now is the best time to go back for the degree or not. I don't want to spend another $30k on more schooling just find out that I'm still only going to find jobs that pay $10/hour.

Good luck with the CPA test.
I still have about couple more years of undergrads...<.< I'm hoping to ride out this mess.
