Having MyTailor, etc. copy a shirt.

I know many members use MyTailor to satisfactory, if not overly enthusiastic, results. A quick question: if I mail them one of my best fitting shirts to copy will they copy every single detail accurately? Of paramount concern is the armhole. I know that many MTM programs will adjust almost anything other than the armhole. If I was to do this, it would be contingent on their ability to replicate the small armholes on my best fitting shirts.

Probably.

To make sure; add an instruction for it to be so.

I used the MyTailor online form to give them the measurements of a shirt I had. They got it pretty exact, but did not add anything extra for shrinkage. I would make a note about that in your order.

This is encouraging. So, do they have a bunch of different stock patterns that they work from?

I provided measurements from my favorite shirt and everything came back perfect. This way you don't have to risk sending your shirt out. When ordering, you can put any additional requests, such as arm hole size, in the "comments" box.

Actually, I have no personal experience with Mytailor

, but my experiences with ModernT. and JantzenT led me to believe it so.

MTM, means working with stock patterns, but I think they can and will make any adjustment. I would just try it.

Do mytailor shirts shrink that much? Some of the comments I have read here suggest so, but I don't understand why their shirts would shrink more than others as they use shirting fabrics other companies make use of.

I've had shirts copied by Nialma with excellent results. Recommended

You appear to live in D.C. MyTailor visits the area about once a month. Why not simply visit them in person? Bring your shirt and point out what you like and don't like about it. I'm sure they will accommodate your request. They are quite easy to work with.

I use the Thomas Mason fabrics when I purchase from them. They don't shrink any differently than shirts made from Thomas Mason fabrics that I've purchased from other makers, which is to say, they don't really shrink.

That's good, as my choices would come from one of the Thomas Mason ranges. If you have experience with any of the Neapolitan shirt makers, such as Borrelli or Attolini, how would you say that the Thomas Mason fabrics compare? I am used to shirts like that but I want to go with MTM and mytailor looks to have the best range of fabrics, but I fear that they won't compare favourably to the better RTW shirts in either materials or construction.

I would go with Tailor Store myself. No shrinkage problems from them with my orders thus far.

Thomas Mason makes some of the best shirtings, so it compares favorably to the fabrics of high end makers, some of whom may very well use Thomas Mason. Some of the high end makers do use nicer fabrics, but not noticeable enough to me to be worth the steep price increase. The construction is not as good, but mytailor's construction is just fine. I simply don't care about handwork on my shirts.

I like quality and sturdy fabrics, MoP buttons, a good fit, decent construction, and the ability to get the exact fabric and style. Mytailor offers that for about $125 for Thomas Mason fabrics.

It's up to you to decide what things you value and what prices you feel comfortable paying. I see no reason for me to purchase RTW when I get everything I want for 1/5 the price. No, discount high end doesn't count, because you're stuck with whatever styles and sizes are available. You get the exact style and fabric with a custom maker, or you get that paying full boat with RTW. That's the fair comparison.

I have had Mytailor do just that. Took a shirt in in person and had them replicate the measurements, with some changes the tailor suggested. One or two tweaks into the the process and I'm quite pleased with the results.

Meet in person.

How much does it cost to have them copy a shirt?

I couldn't get the function to work, it just showed the fabric I chose as costing $60... (is that the final price?).

Do other companies offer this copying service?

Z,
do you have them copy one of your existing shirt collars or do you use their offerings? I am looking at their Traditional and Classic Spread collars but would like to see someone wearing them in pictures.
