I have a light grey flannel suit which looks great with brown shoes and belt. The suit has black buttons which although not my favorite don't bother me, however a friend has pointed out that dark grey as opposed to black buttons would make the outfit look better with the brown. After thinking about it, I feel he might be on to something. Any thoughts? I've always been a strict shoes and belt matcher (or at least never black and brown), but haven't gone as far as to do the same w buttons

I like my suit buttons to match the color shoes/leather accessories I will most ofter wear with the suit. Having said that, I have a gray birdseye suit with very dark buttons I often wear with lighter brown shoes. I like to be able to wear my one pair of black shoes with this suit also so I have let the buttons alone in this one instance.

The black buttons are likely to look better and changing them out will be a PITA. Correct in the belt / shoe match, taking on the buttons is extreme so leave them alone.

Both are fine, I preferably like my buttons to match my suit but I have seen ones like yours and they look nice too.
