It looks like the zippered tote 261 has about the same carrying capacity as the briefcase 257, but the 257 is twice as expensive, would anybody care to explain? (It can't be just the strap...)

The 261 is literally just a tote bag with a zipper. There are two exterior pockets but that's about it. There are no interior compartments or anything.
The 257 is a padded computer bag. There's the padded interior compartment, and a couple dividers. There's a bunch of pockets inside for pens and little stuff. There's also a zippered exterior compartment and a flap cover.

They're pretty different bags. I've got both and to be honest, I use the tote a lot more often. If I'm just carrying a couple things I use a lappy sleeve and put it in the tote with power and whatever else. I rarely need to carry all the little bits of stuff that would normally go in all the compartments of the 257.

I can also fit bulkier stuff into the tote. If I make a Costco run and I need to carry granola bars or whatever to work the next day, I can get a couple boxes of those in the toe.

If I always had to carry my lappy and other crap for work, I'd probably use the 257 a lot more.

Filson 14050 in 32x34. They've been worn for about two weeks but I started lifting and my legs have gotten too big for them.

For those who wear Filson Waxed cotton/tin cloth stuff do you ever clean them or just leave it as is scuffs and all to build "character?"

Saru, what are the thigh and knee measurements on your 32 jeans?

Hey, guys. I'm about to buy a Filson All Season raincoat, but not sure about sizing. Never had a Filson coat or jacket before, so no idea. Can't try that coat in a shop near me and would have to buy from the US while located in Germany. I would really appreciate your support.

http://www.filson.com/products/all-season-raincoat-with-hood.10022.html?fromCat=true&fvalsProduct=mens/cover-cloth&fmetaProduct=1014

I'm 5'9", 82kg resp. 180lbs and my chest is about 43", athletic

Of course I've done my research before and while the Filson website states that their coats are very generously sized I'm not sure if I should buy a size Large as I'm used to buy with most other brands, or if the coats are really huge and I definitely have to size down to a Medium.

Someone maybe has that All Season raincoat and would like to share his experiences?

Thanks in advance,

Steven

Definitely go with a medium. With Filson's sizing, it will still leave you room to layer underneath for colder weather.

I had the raincoat for a time -- really liked it, just had to downsize the wardrobe. I have fairly similar measurements to you and my raincoat fit with plenty of room for the zip-in wool vest, or any other layering I might have wanted underneath, yet I wasn't swimming in it if I only wore it alone in the spring.

Went to the filson outlet store to p/u lined trucker/ hunter jacket, they only had medium and x/l, at 6'1" and 200# filson large seems to fit best. Got a Belltown waxed denim jacket instead in large size. Very pleased with it, fits good. Weather here in is in low to mid 30's wearing a medium wool sweater, long sleeve tee and the Belltown jacket, I was vey comfortable. The lined pockets kept hand warm when outdoors for couple of hours on walk with the dog and the wife.

Does anyone here have any pictures of their old old old well worn tin cloth? I read that it takes on a nice vintage look but can't find any examples online.

@ConcreteFiction:

Thanks for your reply. So, you think a size Large would be too roomy? I've fairly broad shoulders and with a chest of 43" shouldn't a size Large (44") fit as well? Problem is I can't try that coat on over here and actually I'm not intersted in an expensive return shipment should it be too small or too large. The only brand I wear a size Medium is Patagonia, because their Medium fits like a Large. Same with Filson? Would be helpful to have exact measures of both sizes, the Medium and Large. Tried to contact Filson via e-mail, but no reply.

I understand your trepidation with the shipping, but if you are a size medium in Patagonia, I think you are safe with medium in Filson -- I'm a Patagonia M as well, even in their "slim" fits, but especially in their regular cut. If you've ever worn or can try on anything in Carhartt's normal workwear line (I know, may be reaching), Fislon is cut similar to them. But if you are a medium Patagonia, I think you are pretty safe with medium Filson.

You may want to check with Crane's (find info in affiliate list) -- they carry Filson and post all the time in the Wolverine 1000 mile thread. I hear they are great with customer service responses and could possibly get you exact measurements.
