Official Filson Thread - Clothing/Bags Etc - Page 3

I went to the Filson shop in Portland last week. I looked at a few bags, the small duffle, the 257. Their bags are built very solid, but I found the 257 too heavy empty to think about carrying it around with anything in there.

anyone have any fit pics wearing a filson mackinaw cruiser? if it happens to be the gray/black plaid, even better.

I have a brand new tan Filson Medium 222 duffle and matching tan travel kit if anyone is interested.

after about 6 mos of regular use, my khaki colored 258 is breaking in. my denim has run onto the inner half but i think it adds character.

Also, I wonder if the philanthropist bag is covered by the same warranty as their regular bags?

I just added a Filson 256 tan briefcase to my eBay listings...it DOES have the $20 handle grip added also!

this is the photo with the mbp and textbook inside, things closed. the photo ain't that great but i'm not going to take another photo. basically what u need to know is that it doesn't look like a "bloated tick", imo. after putting these things in, you basically don't have room for anything else. you could fit a small water bottle under the flap w/out zippering the bag shut.



i wouldn't get a bigger bag simply because this is the maximum amount of weight that would be bearable to carry in a messenger bag for someone 5'7 and 150 lbs. and a bigger bag would just look disproportional.

Has anyone here punched additional holes into the leather shoulder strap?

With my 256, I had to punch 4 holes into the strap just to have the bag hit at my butt - when the strap is across my front. I'm probably going to punch even more holes into it.

This bag was clearly intended for non-short people

Wow, seeing laughter95's picture of the tan 256 makes me want to really get one now. There is a ton of room in there for my daily university needs. I hope I can take dmash1080's off his hands. Cheers!

LOL. I'll reiterate what you guys already know. We'll price match or beat any legitimate Filson dealer and that includes the Flagship dealer above.

Has anyone attempted to distress / break-in a Filson bag?

Jean shop in NYC sells a bag similar to the 256, with distressed leather and a softer canvas. According to the guy this is accomplished by oiling the leather and washing it.

Considering their price of $350, I'd much rather attempt something myself, or just wait for it to age with time. Personally, I think it looks strange new, kind of like white chucks that have somehow stayed pristine for years.

What size tin cruiser should I get? I'm 6' 1.5" 165 lbs, I'm not sure how much I should size down or if I should get a smaller than normal size but get it in extra long. Thanks!
