gotta check in the 222, the small 220 works though. i really wish they made the 222 slightly smaller so it fits the 45 inch rule

Technically it is too big, but I've used mine a few times without issue. I stack everything neatly within the bottom seams, then pull the carry handle straps to make it as small as possible. I'm sure if you pack it full they might have a problem...

I got my first Filson small duffle for Christmas. I can't wait to use it for a weekend trip. I'm headed to Vegas next month so hopefully it'll be able to handle all the money I win (kidding I always lose my a** there - ughh).

Thanks for the input guys. Exchanging the 222 to a 220 did cross my mind, ultimately I think I prefer the looks of 222 over 220.

Recently picked up a Filson 258 in tan and understand why people love these bags. Haven't used it yet because I'm thinking it's overkill for my usage. Would be great as a carry-on bag, but not so much for daily use. I'm hoping to trade it in for a 256 which is similar to the size of my current daily work bag. I don't know what I was thinking going for a 258, when my 256 sized bag is rarely too small for my daily usage, but so it goes.

This thread is a big part of the reason I came to understand what Filson's luggage is all about, so thanks guys.

I just got my tan 222 medium duffle today from Crane's and I'm very happy with mine. It's heavy and very well made (w/ quality materials). I wish they made lighter and smaller version of the 220 for everyday use. I look forward to travelling with the 222.

Hey Crane's- is the Filson reproofer neutral in color? I've got a jacket from Albam made with British Millerain fabric that's a sort of sky blue color, and I'm wondering the best way to go about reproofing it.

Yes it's neutral in color. Same procedure no matter what waxed cotton product you have.

Just mention that you want it installed in the customer comment section. It's a 20 buck additional charge.

It says $10 just to have it included. Is there anything special about installing it?

I think I said that somewhere but found out later it's an additional 20 bucks. It's a factory installed option. If I remember right someone said Filson charges 40 to do this.

Was happy to find this thread. I spent much of my youth backpacking, camping, fishing & canoeing around the Midwest and currently work half in the trades, half in the arts. Yet I had never heard of Filson at all until I stumbled upon an incredibly well-made flannel shirt in a secondhand store down here on the southside of Chicago. Had to buy it for the $7 they were asking, even though it was several sizes too large - ended up giving it to a friend. The shirt was new with the tags on; the label said "Filson", I looked that up online, and bingo. Everything should be built that well.

However, no one in Illinois seems to carry Filson clothes or gear [except a small flyfishing shop with limited stock], and so I'm left to buy blind online. I hear their clothes run large... if I wear a size 40R when it comes to your average suit or Carhartt jacket, should I get the size 40 double mackinaw or a 38? Keep in mind I've got some orangutan arms here, and my combination of slim rib cage/wide shoulders/lanky arms has always caused problems with fitting (6' 1.5", 170 lbs, 32w x 34i, 12D shoes). I spend a lot of time outside all winter long, which on the shores of Lake Michigan is none too pleasant - was wearing four layers today, and I'm hoping a coat like this will cut it down to two. Plus it will probably last the rest of my life, and won't look as bulky or haggard as my beat-up N3B parka.

Consider buying a 40 Long double mac. You could probably get away with a 38 but don't expect to layer under it if you do.

What fly shop is carrying Filson? I'm a fly fishing fiend and lived on the south side for eons. I made it a point to hit all the fly shops around there.

If you're into serious bass fishing hit a place called Manhattan/Monee Reservoir. Best kept largemouth secret in the area.
