btw, I measured this new pair and it is indeed truer to tag size, still larger than tagged, but by about 1"....whereas the pair I bought a year ago were 2" larger. These are 30 but the waist is 16.5" across (31)

Perfect, do you know if they had size 29 where you bought them?

To the best of my knowledge they don't ship to Canada, and since Sears seems to assume the role of canadian distributor= no 514. I'll look into alternative choices for sourcing, the model really seems to fit the bill in terms of price/fit/color.

when I'm out this weekend, I'll see if I can get a black 29 waist...if so I'll pick one up for you, if you end up not wanting it, I can just return it. If I find a pair, I can ship it to you.

Yeah. Sorry, nothing personal, but only attractive girls should be wearing jeans that fit like that. And to them I say, go for it.

This should tell you why you should never attempt this kind of fit.
