Gimme Shelter was shot on 16mm hand held film cameras then blown up to 35mm, which is why the grain is so prevalent. Criterion is supposed to releasing the movie on BluRay in the next few months. It'll be interesting to see if they do something about the grain. I performed a degrain on my DVD copy and the result is very impressive. It can be done and I hope they clean it up some. Spellbinding movie regardless of the noise, however. Easily the best rock documentary evah.

The Stones are strange. On the one hand, if there's one band whose live performances (during their peak until say, '71 or so) deserved to be captured for future music fans, it's the Stones. On the other hand, they made virtually no effort until Mick and the Gang were well into their mid forties to do so.

btw, that's a really nice clean up job you did with the video. You've got pm.

Criterion will not 'do anything about the grain', promise.

Grain blizzard in BluRay

Just got this DVD box. I had already watched the Godfather about 15 times on VHS and 'normal' DVD but didn't have my own box. My GF gave me the box and it happened to be this one. I haven't watched it yet, but I am really curious to see the differences.
