I'll likely be buying an SBL briefcase this month or next. Just have to decide on color. I already have a Customhide 1945 Army briefcase for more formal occasions, and I think its color is close to your Chestnut, so I'll probably be looking at either the Coffee Brown or the Dark Tobacco. They both look awesome, tough choice!

It is a tough choice. The cool think about the Coffee Brown is that it darkens with time and use and really looks good after a few years. My personal briefcase is the Dark Tobacco. I've just always loved that color and I'm too impatient to wait for the Coffee Brown to darken enough for me to be satisfied.

Absolutely love the luggage trunks, but the overnight bag/weekender looks huge to my taste

I'd put up my deerskin Mulholland Bros briefcase up against any of the Saddleback stuff that is of similar size and use.

Check out the Co-Founder of ArsTechnica.com's post about his trip through Europe in August with our Duffel Bag. I think it will give you a better perspective of the size of the Duffel. It really isn't that large. You can read the post here: ArsTechnica Article

Thanks, that's actually very helpful! (And I would have thought the opposite, since the Dark Tobacco starts out much lighter than the Coffee Brown.) I don't expect to be putting my bag through heavy use very frequently, so I'll probably go with the Dark Tobacco, if it has a more appealing color/patina from the start.

Oh I've owned both Mulholland and Ghurka bags, and I'll admit that for day to day use going to the office or meeting clients, there are none better. But when you've been thru as many airports as I have, some pretty primitive and carrying as much crap as I do, you realize the true value of the Saddlebacks.

One of the Mulholland bags I've taken on a short notice trip to Singapore with a layover in Seoul, I packed with about 25 - 30 lbs of stuff including laptop, spare batteries, books, documents, travel kit and various sundries, actually leaving out a lot of stuff I usually carry. Walked from one end of Seoul's Incheon Int'l airport to the other, about 500 meters. Walked from one end of Singapore's Changi airport to the other, another 500 meters. Walked a length of Orchard road due to a mixup in hotel reservations, another 1 km. By the time I got into my hotel room, I realized that the wimpy shoulder strap had stretched to the point where it was about to break. Came home by way of Schipol Int'l Airport in Amsterdam and walked all over their ginormous duty free stores. Unpacking the bag at home, I saw that the sharp corner of my laptop had worn thru the inner nylon lining. Then I saw underneath the bag, some stitching was about to pop.

I've put my 16" saddleback briefcase thru far far worse abuse, filling it with 40 lbs of stuff, some of it wet, some of it sharp, some of it pointy and walked untold miles with it over my shoulder or in backpack mode, with absolute confidence that nothing was going to rip, tear, stretch or pop. I've had it about 3 years and put about 45,000 air miles on it. It hasn't let me down yet and I will not travel with anything else.

So I'll say it once again, Mulholland and Ghurka are fine for going to the office with a few slim document folders and a Macbook Air, and maybe a sandwich. In fact they're what I carry to the office myself when I know I'm meeting clients. But for air travel, especially the rough, short notice, economy class travel that I'm forced to do, I wouldn't trust any other bag.

My fault, I actually did get those two mixed up. Take everything I said and just switch the colors. But both colors are great.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Sounds like you travel more than most. What takes you around the world?

You bet, style forum members will be the first to know about any new product lines.
