Just a few updates

The new satchels are incredibly popular. We sold 53 satchels yesterday. Make sure you check out all the new products.

All our products are made of 100% full grain cow leather, not deerskin, not calfskin, nor kitten skin. You can read about the quality and materials here. http://www.saddlebackleather.com/33-quality.

We'll be hopefully hosting a promotion for Style Forum members the end of November which you will only be able to hear about here in this thread. Please stay tuned.

If I give my Large Chestnut Briefcase a mink oil treatment to darken it a bit (Chestnut was my #2 color choice, after coffee, but didn't know when I'd ever get another shot at buying a Saddleback here in Korea), will it impair how the bag looks a year or two down the road with natural age?

I'm very much a beginner to leather care, but have read through the FAQ on the website.

Hey stvwrd,

I'm not sure what you mean by "impair"? Mink oil will definitely darken the leather more than it will darken with natural age. The amount of darkness depends on how much oil you apply and how often. It also depends a lot on the color of your bag. One of the great things about buying a lighter color like the tobacco is that the darkening and aging process of the bag is much more evident. I think it shows the character of the bag more than the darker colors. If you already have a darker color, the darkening and aging process will be less evident.

If are a few places to get more info about leather care.

Thanks for those links. Actually, I forgot that I already joined the saddleback group on art of manliness.

My brother told me a funny recent story about his Large dark tobacco briefcase. He's currently in medical school and there was some kind of big meeting that he and a few classmates were attending with some big wigs in his school. He got there really early and was the first person there.

He picked a random spot and put his briefcase down then went off to the cafeteria for breakfast.

When he came back, several other people had arrived and were waiting. Sitting in places around his briefcase were professors and University administrators.

A few of them had arrived together, saw the fancy briefcase, assumed it belonged to someone important, and took their places around it without even thinking about it. Then others showed up, and just joined the group. They were all pretty surprised when one of the students came up and started digging around in it.

He said everyone laughed about it and started asking about what brand the bag is, where he got it, etc, etc.

It's funny how often that happens. I love the fact that I carry a briefcase that looks completely unique compared to what everyone else is carrying.

How is the bag doing as far as functionality and comfort of use? Still pretty stiff? Worn in at all? Finding a place to put everything you want to carry?
