Has anyone been able to get a whisky colour like this from their bags with age?

I was hoping it could be done by darkening the tobacco colour or lightening the chestnut colour. Any suggestions?

I think you'd have better luck with the Tobacco. I have a TB notepad that has patina'd to a nice honey color in short time without any conditioners.

If you're going to try it, you should start with the lighter shade because leather darkens naturally over time.

I think that they used to have a darker shade of tobacco , may be worth contacting them to see if they did, and if so, if they can still do it. If not put a saved search on eBay and be patient.

I did the same thing. I ordered the medium Classic Briefcase in Chestnut per the suggestion on the website (I'm 5'8) but thought it looked like an over-sized lunchpale. It looks too much like a box. The materials are very nice and the color is great but it's not as aesthetically pleasing to the eye as the large in my opinion.

I plan on ordering the large soon and will try to post initial thoughts and the like after getting it.

Not sure if anybody would be interested but I finally got around to do a post on the tobacco brown large satchel I got a few months ago. I got around to conditioning it and tried the weatherproof dressing made by Frye. I haven't seen anyone try it yet but here's my experience with it!

Hey guys.

So I ordered and received the medium leather briefcase in dark chocolate brown. When I took it out of the box I noticed some creasing and bulging near the handle, around the edges of the bag. I was wondering if this is normal or expected? The bag is literally minutes out of the box when I took these pictures.

Would it be worth contacting saddleback and trying to return the bag and hope for a new one. Or is this something I should expect from every bag.?

^ Yes, but not a good picture. Here it is just before I shipped it off to 'InterlockingNY' from SF. Decided to keep my DCB version.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

Another poster had a similar problem and I believe he sent the bag back for repair - it was an issue with the insert that supports the handle "bulging" so you could see a clear imprint of it in the area where your wrinkling is.

My new briefcase pretty much had the same exact creasing and bulging. I decided it wasn't worth it to me to send it back. But, this is a $500 bag we are talking about, so if you are not completely happy, send it back.

It's fine. All the bags have a "buldge" where the handle support plate is.  The guy earlier in the thread exchanged his for another because the first one he received had scuffs all over.

As far as the creases.. as soon as you use the bag it'll have creases and scuffs all over so I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the time to write up a review and take some pics! The tobacco brown is pretty awesome.. my next SBL piece will have to be in tobacco.

I've received 2 dark coffee brown medium-sized bags and they both were like that. My current one is much worse than yours.

Also, the metal clasps from your shoulder strap will dig into the edge of the leather next to that area and create more creases.
