I think the bag would be fine with a suit if you go with Carbon Black, Chestnut, or Coffee Brown for the color of the briefcase.  Tobacco may be a little too casual.

Thanks for the input. I love the tobacco, but agree that it is too casual. I am leaning towards Chestnut over Coffee, and I am not even considering black.

The bag looks great in chestnut.

I'm currently in law school, using my DCB large briefcase on a daily basis.  I've gone to client interviews, job interviews, and formal functions with my bag in tote and get nothing but complements.

I think you'll do fine in a formal situation.

Haha, joined for the sole reason to talk about these bags.

I've been eyeing the large satchel for a while now and aside from the usual self-arguments about which colour would be best, I also have a wee problem (no pun intended). I'm about 5'4 but I want to get something that would be able to hold A4 documents and possibly a book or two comfortably.

Would anybody on this forum who does have the large satchel take a picture carrying it so I can judge the size? PIctures like that seem to be few and far in between.

^ There are several Saddleback pages on Facebook with photo galleries...try there

Here's one of me with my large satchel in DCB. I'm 5'8". I hope this helps.

It doesn't look too intimidating in size! It looks way larger in most of the other pictures I've found (maybe because of the angle and what not) so this helps quite a bit! I finally caved and ordered one in tobacco brown today. I'm hoping that I also only get charged for about $52CAD (in Vancouver on the other side of the country here haha).

Finally got my bag! It's a medium classic briefcase in chestnut.

I like it, however I'm concerned about one thing. Are these marks/wrinkles something I should be worried about? They're made from the metal that keeps the shape of the bag. This isn't something I've noticed on the pictures I've seen online.

^ No worries. Your bag will wrinkle slightly at the bend points...adds to character of bag. I believe that piece under the leather supports the handle. Beautiful case...enjoy!

This would help to answer some of the requests that you have received concerning making backpack pockets/deeper pockets for the briefcases. Even those who already have a bag could adapt it by adding the side pockets. For example:

Thanks- thats a high compliment. this suggestion is the result of looking at every picture of a SBL Briefcase online and reading every review that I can find. If this goes into production, would you mind sending me a set of them for coming up with the idea?

So, I see that my idea actually went into production. Boy, I sure would like to have one.

I am looking at getting the classic duffel overnight bag, but read some comments in this thread that it might not work as a carry on bag? From the measurements on the website, and what I see allowed on most airlines, it seems like it would work just fine, but thought I would double check before moving forward with the purchase.

The relevant bit for me is as follows, taken directly from their product page:
Quote:
Weighs approx. 12 lbs.

To give some perspective, USAir and American claim max carryon weight of 40 lbs. Virgina America, 16 lbs. Virgin Atlantic or IcelandAir? 13 lbs.

It looks fantastic and is probably bombproof, but there might be better options out there for this purpose.

I'm really interested in the briefcase thin, but is it heavy weight-wise? I know on the site it says 4.25 pounds but just wanting to know what it felt like in people's hands. Thanks!

Tried to do a search on the thread but not sure if that question was addressed so my apologies if it has been.

Those pouches on the strap are greatness.
