Well, I've been a long time lurker, but finally got around to officially joining the forum.
There hasn't been a lot of love for the Thin briefcase, but I've carried a SBL Large Thin Briefcase in chestnut for a couple of months now and really like it. It is a heavy piece compared to other bags I've carried through the years (my primary brief for about 15 years was an old Lands End attache in olive canvas with brown leather trim -- great bag, BTW), but not as heavy as the Classic BC of an equivalent size. I travel quite a bit for my job, and the bag works well on the road. Sure, it's not as comfortable as one of the multitude of laptop backpacks that everyone seems to carry these days, but carried with the strap cross-shoulder, it's still damn comfortable. Here's a couple of shots - exterior and interior. Apologies up front for the quality of the 1st gen iPhone pic...
The bag was my second SBL piece. I've carried minimalist wallets for years, and picked up a Saddleback ID wallet (also in chestnut) in January of this year. I don't know how that thing will ever wear out. Needless to say, I'm a huge fan of the company and their products. It doesn't bother me that that their products are made in Mexico -- some of the most amazing leatherwork I've ever seen are from multigenerational leatherworking families, and they're true artists at their craft. While the volume that SBL deals in means that they're getting dangerously close to being mass produced, there is still very much an artisan/craftsman feel to these pieces.
Also, because I live in the DFW area, their normal UPS ground shipping equates to next day shipping for me.
