I like that mousepad a lot. Good idea for a product. I am curious as to what is the function of the rivets - there are no stress points on a flat mousepad, right? So are the rivets just for the looks? I think it might be better not to have them, since unless they are flush with the surface they might come in way while using the mouse.

Good question. I believe the rivets are there mainly for show but I'll ask Dave about that. As you can see, the rivets are on the outer edge of the mouse pad leaving plenty of room for the mouse to navigate in the middle of the pad. Dave always uses his products for a good period of time before he launches them and I don't think he had this problem with the mousepad. I would say the rivets are flush enough to keep from snagging the mouse

I like the look very much. Why "Water Bag"?

Okay, I talked to Dave and have a much better answer for you. The rivets are there for extra support in the design. Dave described the mousepad thread like this. We use stout, thick and expensive industrial marine grade UV resistant thread used for airbags, sails and work boots. But just like a rock wears away under a waterfall, thread will also wear away with time. The rivets are there to add to the longevity of the thread and reinforce the leather bindings. The rivets are also slightly inset to keep your mouse from snagging.

Does that better answer your question?

Here are a few more pics and how Dave has described the bag. This is from an e-mail Dave sent back in Mid-June. "Thought I'd pass this one on to you so you could see it. It's still in the works, but this is the 3rd edition. Maybe we'll see this one by October. It is completely waterproof and dustproof. I call it the waterbag. The body is made up of only one piece of leather. When it bends over or is rolled up, then it's waterproof. It can be used wide open like a grocery sack too. Then, when you're home, you can put your baby into it for a nap." I'm not sure what edition Dave is on with this now, but it'll be coming out toward the beginning of next year I would expect.

I am still not convinced we need that many rivets on a mouse pad. Mousepads sit inside (airconditioned?) offices mostly, under flourescent light. I think it will take 2 generations for that thick thread (rope?) to wear off, unless you use it a shield during those fights in the office

Given the price, I am really tempted to order one to see how the leather feels like.

Well, we warranty the mousepad for at least one generation. If it were to last two generations, that would be fantastic. Use it as a shield in the office or as a small, inadequate bullet proof vest.

Here are some pics of well used (2 years) saddleback bags that I found on this thread:

Very interesting to see how the color changes as the bag ages.

A couple of days ago I received my big wallet in light tobacco brown. When I opened the box my first thought was wow this is a cool field journal looking thing and man is it big. So I rummaged around and got my passport, checkbook, credit cards, American currency, Chinese currency, some receipts, change, business cards, camera ram card, my big honkin Surefire pen and a small hiking notebook and loaded it up. All of it is nicely organized with room to spare which is good for a pack rat like me. LOL! The best part is it's not flimsy and whatever is inside is pretty much bomb proofed.

I couldn't ask for anything more in a travel wallet.

Jonathan,

What size satchel is the DSLR with the big telephoto lens sitting in? I've been eyeballing a satchel for a while to use as a rough use camera bag when I'm out and about afield.

I'm liking the idea of an affiliate program with you guys but I would want to add an entire category to my website and sell them online. Sorta like a drop ship program. Are you game for something like that?

Yes, the color definitely darkens with the lighter bags. Not so much with the darket colors.

Mr. Crane,

Love your site! You've got some great stuff on there. I'm also very happy to hear you're enjoying the big wallet. You'll have to shoot some pics of it when you have some time and share them on the forum.

The camera lens is in a Large Satchel. Also works great as a wine carrier and diaper bag.

Would love to chat with you more about the affiliate program. We're not into retailing right now, but that could be an option in the future. If you'd like to chat more, PM me and we can set up a time to chat.

Cheers,
Jonathan
