Hi everyone,
I've been researching Saddleback like mad for about a year now and am saving to buy a briefcase in the next few months. I have a couple questions that I hope you could help me with.
My first question is about briefcase size. I know loads of people have asked about it here, and I've looked at hundreds of photos online, but I'm wondering if I could get some personalized advice. I'm waffling between the medium and the large. My concerns are both aesthetic and functional. I'm 5'10", 150 lbs, with a thin, ectomorphic build. While I'm worried the large will just make me look slighter (something I don't need help with), I'm afraid the medium will not have enough space. I've seen pictures of guys of my height where the large looks just fine, others where it looks huge.
I'm a college student so the briefcase will mainly be my daily bring-to-lectures bag. At times I'd like to pack my 13" laptop and power cord, a couple text books, an expandable file holder, planner, camera, iPod, phone, pens, keys, a water bottle, and lunch. Is this overkill for the medium? I'm also never in the same country for more than a few months, so when I fly I'd like the briefcase to become my standard carry-on, filling it with laptop, toiletries, a book, a change of clothes and the like. I'd rather have too much space than too little, but only if the large won't look grotesquely large on me, you know? The deal breaker would be if the medium can hold all my stuff no problem. If someone's thinking "DON'T DO IT! A large will make a skinny 5'10" guy look puny as!!!", or on the flip side if there's no way a medium will provide enough space, please let me know.
My second question is about the new logo. I can't tell from the website how long they've been using it, and they don't really provide information about how they're using the "Saddleback®" versus the Blue logo. I've seen some concerning photos across the internet where the "Saddleback®" appears to be placed smack dab on the middle strap at the front side of the briefcase. Please tell me that this is not where SB is placing the logo now! I understand a company's need to advertise, and I would not be adverse to a logo on the inside flap or the back of the briefcase, but the placement of this new logo really really took me aback. It just seemed so tacky and turned me off from what I had perceived as SB's classy, non-consumer attitude. Imagine how much great conversation is killed because people's eyes naturally go first to the logo on the front and no longer need to ask about the bag! I hate to sound like a jerk, but if this is the case now, the briefcase has lost a lot of appeal for me. Does anyone feel the same? I really like the Blue logo as it's more enigmatic at first sight and therefore more personal, but it seems SB is not employing this instead of, but rather in addition to, the "Saddleback®" logo.
If someone could clear this logo confusion up for me that would be great. If "Saddleback®" is indeed emblazoned center stage, I might consider another make.
Which would be a shame, because this briefcase screams EPIC in every other way possible.
Thanks for any help you have to offer. I really appreciate the support found on this forum.
EDIT - Here are some links to Facebook photos with what seems to be the new logo placement:

These all seem to have been uploaded this month. Pictures from even a few months ago looked the same just sans logo on the front.
