I really wish the Saddleback Leather website had better information on sizing. It could be as simple as some pictures of each size of a product side-by-side next to yet another object for a sense of scale. The guidance they have on the site now doesn't seem sufficient for such an expensive purchase.
I want to buy a classic SBL briefcase but I'm still torn between Medium and Large. I'm 6'0 and 220lbs and would want to include a 3-ring binder, manilla folders, notebooks, and the occasional 15' laptop but I'm afraid the large will make me look like I'm taking an huge overnight bag everyday to the office.
There seems to be no clear consensus on the forum on the briefcase size. I've read posts from some owners using the medium because they don't want too much extra unused space. I've read posts from some owners using the large (or extra large) because they want to be prepared for the occasional days when they need a lot of space.
Do any long-term owners have any guidance on briefcase purchasing?
hi ZAP- I have a large classic and while it's pretty big (and i'm short-5'7) i've not had people comment much about the size, so much as about the overall look and heft of the bag. So I woudln't worry too much about it. It's fairly amazing what one can fit in one of these. I've lugged 2- 1 gallon jugs of water with no problem (don't ask, long story). I like to compress the bag with either S clips/biners or the straps when i don't need the extra space.
All that said- I'm realizing it's too much bag for my needs. I've started a new position and traveling a lot more, and I keep seeing Gate Attendants giving the bag a second look as if they want me to gate check it.
I'm finding the buckle a bit cumbersome at security as well. If you're interested in a well loved, 14 month old large Dark Coffee Brown, let me know (or anyone for that matter)- I love it, but in the end, it's not the right bag for me right now....\t
