Funny thing , at the price of RTW LV bag one can have bespoke croc bag and some left over money for nice shoes ,but no , they need the brand, cause that increases their status in the eyes of other bitches.

Fortunately, my gf has no desire for LV. Unfortunately, she does for Chanel.

China. I'll be your proxy if you want. made-in-china.com there is some very nice LV bags there, and not too expensive either.

I'm buying the LV men's large washbag next week, I only plan to use it when I travel as it's the right size for holding everything I need to take on the plane. It's 420 pounds which on the one hand is a shed load of cash for a small leather bag but on the other hand will give years and years of service. My mum has an LV handbag that's been going 20 years and still looks great.

You can always spot a fake LV not by the bag but by the person holding it, in the UK that is usually some chavy bird in a 'Juicy Couture' tracksuit pushing a pram and wearing dirty trainers.

I have a strong preference for quality above brand, but that's just me.

To me, LV is primarily a brand -- but I will say this: I have been impressed with how their leather appears to hold up -- I've seen LV bags that have taken years of use and still look very good. (Similarly, I have a Ferragamo belt and wallet I bought years ago and have used a ton and both still look fantastic.)

I would have a much more difficult time purchasing a costly item for someone that I knew or suspected would not hold up. Here, it appears that it will, and that the item is sufficiently "iconic" (from the users perspective) to be carried for years.

So, LV bag she wants, LV bag she gets ....

Why not just get a fake one? She'll never know the difference. It is very likely that the only reason she wants this bag is so that she can show it off so people will think she has money, not because of the quality of the bag itself. Sooo..just get the fake one and save some cash.

I agree. LV bags hold up quite well. My wife had one that the stitching came loose and when we were at the store they offered to repair it on their dime. They took it and called us in after a few weeks to tell us it was ready. The stitching was basically perfect (like new).

But my mentality is that you can't/shouldn't get good products at a discount. If it isn't worth the premium price, I wouldn't buy it.

Buying a LV bag as a gift? You're a baller! Well done. I have given LV wallets but never a bag. Good on you!

I use a LV wallet and it looks brand new after a year of daily usage.

It's rather discreet and even those more in tune with LV don't seem to recognize it.

Good on OP for being able to gift a bag.
